Biography
Andrea Nicole de Koning is an associate in the Labor and Employment department of Seyfarth Shaw LLP. Her practice focuses on employment litigation of complex discrimination and harassment cases brought as single-plaintiff and multi-plaintiff actions under federal and statutory laws. She also routinely handles wrongful termination, breach of contract, and other employment-related tort and contract claims for a wide variety of clients.
Ms. de Koning has California state court trial experience. She secured a defense verdict in her first solo trial in California Superior Court for the county of Sacramento and has second-chair trial experience in Contra Costa county.
In addition to her litigation practice, Ms. de Koning also provides day-to-day counseling and advice to clients about the various laws affecting the employment relationship, including the California Fair Employment and Housing Act, Title VII, the Americans with Disabilities Act, California Labor Code, the Fair Labor Standards Act, and other state and federal statutes. Ms. de Koning also routinely counsels employers regarding workplace issues including employee complaints, workplace investigations, leaves of absence and the interactive process. She also regularly reviews employer policies for compliance under state and federal law.
Prior to joining Seyfarth, Ms. De Koning represented clients at well over 40 mediations and arbitrations, took well over 150 depositions, and gained trial experience in personal injury, wrongful death, commercial liability, defamation, products, premises, and employment cases.
In law school, Ms. de Koning was a Judicial Extern to the Honorable Richard Seeborg, then Magistrate for the Northern District of California. She also served as a Research Assistant to Prof. Philip Jimenez researching unique questions of federal jurisdiction. She was awarded “best oral advocate” in her Advocacy class and received the CALI award for earning the highest grade in her Civil Procedure course.
