More About Coby

Both large national employers and small local companies face an increasingly complicated regime of federal and state laws, particularly in California. Coby provides ongoing employment counseling to clients to facilitate compliance with these federal and state employment laws, such as those governing payment of wages and wage statements, pay equity and pay transparency, reasonable accommodations, employee exemptions, and workplace investigations. She works with clients to understand and weigh risks related to these wage-and-hour and compliance matters, and craft practical solutions to fit company needs.

Coby manages large-scale California class actions and multistate MDL actions, dealing with claims such as alleged wage statement violations, regular rate violations, expense reimbursement laws, exempt status misclassification, independent contractor misclassification, meal and rest period litigation, off-the-clock work, and equal pay claims. She provides counseling on compliance with these same subjects, as well as on topics such as independent contractor agreements, commission agreements, employee handbook policies, religious and disability/medical exemptions, and a multitude of laws implicated by the rise of remote and hybrid working arrangements.

Coby understands that all legal decisions must balance business needs and risk, and she uses her experience working in the private sector to provide options to clients operating in a wide array of industries, including financial services, technology, education, manufacturing, construction, agriculture, and food production. She relies upon her background in accounting to assess potential litigation exposure, based on a variety of best- and worst-case scenarios so that clients can make informed judgments about how to proceed with their cases.

Coby's experience presenting to clients large and small helps provide in-house counsel, human resources partners, and management with the legal background necessary to craft practical solutions. She frequently hosts presentations and trainings for clients on wage-hour compliance matters, remote work, and pay transparency/pay equity issues, including question-and-answer sessions with clients' in-house counsel, human resources, and management teams.

Coby loves working with a team where someone always knows the answer, regardless of the question posed by the client. Seyfarth's resources also help her provide full service to clients in many different legal areas. She is proud to work with such a deep bench so that she can proactively help clients solve matters before they become problems.
