Ms. Bochneak is an associate in the Chicago office of the Commercial Litigation Group, with a focus on matters involving complex business litigation, trade secrets, intellectual property, and bankruptcy. A registered patent attorney, Ms. Bochneak began her practice in patent prosecution involving mechanical, electrical, business method, and software technologies. Ms. Bochneak now applies her analytical and writing skills to diverse areas of intricate and nuanced litigation and client counseling, including:

  • Contractual, joint venture, franchise, construction, trade secret, and restrictive covenant disputes;
  • Copyright, patent, trade dress, and trademark infringement actions;
  • Bankruptcy matters including fraudulent transfer prosecution, creditors’ rights litigation, corporate reorganization, and pre-bankruptcy planning and negotiations; and
  • Class action discrimination claims.

Ms. Bochneak was a member of Seyfarth Shaw’s 2010 Pro Bono Team of the Year, and volunteers with numerous organizations in Chicago. In her work with Common Threads, Ms. Bochneak helps engage elementary school children in understanding the value of diverse and healthy nutrition, active lifestyles, and an understanding of other cultures. She also works with 826Chi in providing tutoring and creative writing support services to elementary, middle, and high school students. Ms. Bochneak’s volunteer work also includes Slow Food Chicago, which promotes access to sustainable and nutritious foods in urban centers.

While earning her J.D., Ms. Bochneak worked with Professor Lori Andrews at the Institute for Science, Law and Technology where she conducted academic research and wrote on such topics as genetic privacy, patentable subject matter, and inefficiencies within the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Ms. Bochneak also served as a research fellow at the World Trade Institute in Bern, Switzerland, where she contributed to a working paper addressing U.S. patent laws and proposed frameworks pertaining to human genetics.

Before joining Seyfarth as an associate, Ms. Bochneak was a law clerk for the Intellectual Property Practice Group, assisting in a number of copyright, trademark, and patent prosecution and litigation matters. Ms. Bochneak also served as a judicial extern for the Honorable Martin C. Ashman in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois and was awarded the 2007 Health Law Student Award from the American Society of Law, Medicine and Ethics. Ms. Bochneak graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in Industrial and Operations Engineering, interned in the Industrial Engineering department of UPS, and accrued computer programming experience in multiple languages, particularly with respect to dynamic databases.
