Mr. Long is a partner in the Litigation Department at the Downtown Los Angeles office of Seyfarth Shaw LLP, where he handles a broad array of civil litigation matters.  His focus is primarily on the areas of complex commercial litigation/class action defense involving consumer fraud/deception and false advertising/labeling claims, enforcing creditor rights and remedies, general business tort and contract litigation, trade secrets and restrictive covenant litigation, and products liability.  Mr. Long practices in both federal and state courts.  He has extensive experience in complex commercial class action, multi-party, and coordinated litigation.  He handles matters from pre-litigation investigation and resolution to provisional remedies, discovery, and all forms of motion practice through trial and appellate proceedings.

Mr. Long believes in working closely with clients to achieve client goals and providing exceptional client service.  Each lawsuit and stage within a lawsuit requires careful evaluation to determine the appropriate tact and strategy.  Mr. Long possesses the skills and demeanor to be a creative problem solver and consensus builder or a highly aggressive litigator depending on the situation.

  • Defended a high-end national food retailer/market in numerous class actions involving alleged unfair business practices, unfair competition, and false advertising claims concerning sales, marketing, and labeling of various products in California and nationally, including claims concerning organic labeling, nutritional labeling, country of origin, discounting, and weights and measures.
  • Representation of a commercial lender’s assignee in an action against the guarantor of commercial real estate development loan, where he prevailed on an approximately $20,000,000 motion for summary judgment on behalf of his client.
  • Representation of an assignee of defaulted commercial real estate loan and promissory note in actions against the borrower and guarantors, where he obtained approximately $15,000,000 writs of attachment against the guarantors and appointment of receiver against borrower.
  • Representation of court-appointed receiver as receiver’s counsel.
  • Defended a national supplier of bottled water against claims by a competitor for unfair business practices, slander, misappropriation of trade secrets, and predatory pricing. 
  • Representation of a leading internet provider in complex litigation involving contract and unfair business practices claims.
  • Representation of a leading retailer/e-tailer in complex litigation involving unfair business practices and false advertising claims relating to value claims.
  • Representation of a national convenience store chain in complex litigation involving unfair business practices claims relating to collection of state sales tax.
  • Obtained summary judgment in favor of retailer against claims for alleged birth defects from ingestion of nutritional supplement.
  • Representation of a supplier of latex gloves in Judicial Council Coordinated Proceedings concerning latex allergies.
  • Representation of a large aerospace insurance company in litigation involving claims for misappropriation of trade secrets, breaches of fiduciary duty, and unfair competition.
