International Labor & Employment Law
With the ever-increasing internationalization of business, the need for U.S. companies to be able to effectively manage their international workforce continues to grow.
Employers with multinational businesses face a myriad of foreign labor and employment laws and local cultural considerations that impact how they can best achieve their commercial objectives.
Given the legal, commercial, and financial risks arising from international labor and employment issues, companies need to be able to monitor and maintain control over their offshore operations and have comfort and confidence that their labor and employment systems and approach operate lawfully and effectively around the world.
Our team of international labor employment lawyers is the largest of its type globally and our practice is acknowledged as one of the world’s leading practices in the area. Many of the partners in our practice are pioneers in the practice area. All of the partners in our international practice are foreign-trained and they have deep experience acting for large multinational companies operating around the world across a wide range of industries.
Our service model has been developed over a number of years and is very well tested by some of the largest companies in the U.S. and around the world. Our model utilizes an experienced central point of contact for all international employment matters in key commercial hubs in the U.S. and London, and we have a series of long-standing and very well-tested and reliable relationships with top employment lawyers across the globe.
Unlike other firms, our international practice is not composed of domestic lawyers who try to do international work as a sideline to their domestic practice. Nor is our international practice simply a post-box for compiling advice from foreign lawyers and then passing it on to clients for a fee. We stay focused on our clients’ business objectives and desired commercial outcomes. We operate a ‘client team’ approach with the same lawyers working on clients’ matters to ensure that institutional knowledge about our clients and their industries is captured and properly leveraged over time.
We are known for our cutting edge approach and for providing practical commercial advice to enable our clients to run their business and address any issues that they face, irrespective of the geographic location. Our service model is built with this in mind. Our team has changed the way that many of the world’s largest companies manage their global employment issues.
Some highlights over the last year for our international employment law team include:
- Cross Border Projects: In the last year we completed more than 30 multi-jurisdictional strategic and compliance projects covering more than 120 countries.
- International Transactions: We acted as specialist international employment counsel on more than 20 international transactions in the last year including in some of the highest-profile global M&A transactions. A testimony to the profile of the practice is that we were appointed by the client to provide specialist international employment advice in each of these transactions where other firms were the client's appointed deal counsel.
- Media: Our team, its high quality, and market leading status was mentioned in the media more than 100 times in the last year.
