People: Jonathan W. Lent, Associate
Biography
Mr. Lent is a senior associate in the Litigation Department in the Boston office of Seyfarth Shaw, LLP, where he focuses his practice on complex business litigation matters. Mr. Lent has significant experience in all phases of litigation from pre-suit analysis through trial and appeal, and his practice includes class action defense, commercial, consumer financial services, intellectual property, and securities litigation matters. His extensive commercial and consumer financial services litigation experience includes breach of contract, unfair and deceptive trade practices, business torts, claims under the Uniform Commercial Code, and other actions under various state and federal statutes. Mr. Lent’s class action defense experience includes both consumer class action defense as well as experience defending officers, directors, and issuers in securities litigation. He also has litigated patent infringement and trade secret cases involving a variety of technologies and industries.
Among other notable cases, Mr. Lent recently secured the dismissal of a consumer class action complaint against a national retailer for alleged unfair and deceptive trade practices. Mr. Lent also recently obtained a defense verdict in a fast-tracked federal court jury trial for a national bank in a publicized case, in which the bank was accused of instructing its borrowers to stop making their mortgage payments to qualify for a loan modification and of promising them that it would not foreclose while their loan modification application was being considered.
