Ken Grady is the Chief Executive Officer of SeyfarthLean Consulting.  SeyfarthLean Consulting works with organizations around the world to provide innovative solutions for in-house legal departments and other strategic business units.  By marrying legal knowledge and consulting services, SeyfarthLean® Consulting provides solutions that reduce costs, improve quality, mitigate risk and enhance efficiencies   With an emphasis on process improvement, complex project management and sophisticated portfolio management, SeyfarthLean Consulting uses Lean Six Sigma, data analytics and other creative, proactive approaches that provide results-driven solutions for its clients.

Ken’s prior experience includes partnership in a major law firm, general counsel roles at three Fortune 1000 size corporations, and executive leadership positions in the retail and manufacturing industries.  As general counsel, Ken employed techniques such as value fee arrangements, project management and Lean Six Sigma, reducing legal department expenses by up to 50% while supporting growing organizations.  In 2011, Financial Times recognized Ken for Leadership in In-house Counsel/Outside Counsel Relationships. 

Seyfarth Shaw has been a leader in bringing Lean Six Sigma to the legal industry, and Ken has almost twenty years of experience with Lean thinking and Lean Six Sigma.  As part of the award-winning team at office furniture manufacturer HNI Corporation, Ken was general manager of the company’s second largest facility leading its 700-person team in more than 1,500 hours of Lean events.  In one year, the facility’s commitment to Lean drove more than 7% in productivity improvement at the same time production grew by more than 40%, the facility achieved a near-perfect safety record, and was recognized for its quality and ROIC performances.  Ken received Lean training in Japan through famed consulting firm Shingijutsu Co., Ltd., studying under Yoshiki Iwata and Senji Niwa, two members of the original Toyota Autonomous Study Group founded by Taiichi Ohno, one of the creators of the Toyota Production System.

Ken was a member of the Association of Corporate Counsel for 14 years.  He has been a member of ACC’s Board of Directors, its Advocacy Committee and its Value Challenge Steering Committee.  Ken has spoken widely on law firm – legal department relationships, value fee arrangements, legal department strategy and ways to improve the efficiency of practicing law.
