More About Peter

Clients in the real estate industry face myriad challenges in their pursuit of business opportunities. Having worked on hundreds of transactions of varying size and complexity over his 30-year career as an attorney, Peter and his team work with clients to help them navigate the process and close their deals in an efficient and cost-effective manner. Whether representing developers, buyers, sellers, lenders, investors, property owners, tenants, or other stakeholders, clients appreciate that Peter's experience representing clients on all sides of transactions and his deep understanding of the legal and business issues they face helps them "cut to the chase" in evaluating risk and reaching compromise as needed.

Regardless of the size or complexity of a particular transaction, clients turn to Peter and his team for insightful advice and guidance, as well as superior client service.

From ground-up development of high-rise office buildings, massive apartment complexes and sprawling industrial parks to single-tenant industrial sites; from simple purchase and sale transactions to complicated financings and multijurisdictional portfolio transactions, Peter has successfully helped his clients close transactions in virtually all sectors of the real estate industry. He has also assisted clients in connection with wind, solar, and energy storage projects as well as traditional oil and gas transactions. Peter's experience includes representing US investors in transactions involving real estate in Latin America and representing Latin American investors in transactions in the US.

Peter's background and his extensive contacts and relationships with major industry players gives him a deep understanding and appreciation for the different perspectives of the various participants in real estate transactions. As a result, he is often able to anticipate issues before they are raised by opposing parties. He presents his clients with a variety of approaches and practical solutions that avoid delays and excessive negotiations.

Peter also brings creativity and ingenuity to the work he does for clients. For example, his work on the development, expansion, and redevelopment of regional malls enabled him to devise a unique solution to a redevelopment project where the anchors had vastly different ideas about how the mall should be operated. Recognizing that a single approach would not provide the flexibility that his developer client required, Peter was able to replace a 1970s-era construction operation and reciprocal easement agreement with two separate agreements, one for each end of the mall project. This enabled luxury anchors to maintain a fashion-oriented area at one end of the project, while mass merchandisers operated their respective stores as desired on the other end of the mall. This approach also allowed the developer to preserve rights to expand the project by limiting approvals to the anchors on the side of the mall that would be affected by such expansion. By limiting the number of parties with approval rights, the developer was able to focus on satisfying the anchor stores who would be most affected rather than having to satisfy all of the anchors.

Since joining Seyfarth in 2014, Peter has enjoyed being a part of one of the largest real estate practice groups in the country, which allows him to serve geographically diverse clients in a variety of sectors. His clients benefit from his ability to draw on the collective experience of more than 100 colleagues on the Seyfarth Real Estate team.
