Robert Hanley is a partner in the International Department of Seyfarth Shaw (UK) LLP and Chair of the firm’s International Corporate and Commercial practice. Rob has more than 30 years of experience assisting clients under both English and Australian law. Rob has served as investment counsel in connection with complex cross-border acquisitions, joint ventures and other investment transactions. Rob’s clients include leading corporations, investment banks, private equity houses and institutional investors throughout Europe and the Asia Pacific.

Rob is ranked in Chambers Global as a foreign expert in Corporate/M&A in the UK and Australia. He also has been recognized by The Legal 500 for Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

  • Advising a US State government pension fund on the sale of its minority interest in Formula 1 to US listed Liberty Media Corporation (US$8 billion)
  • Advising the Murdoch family interests on the restructure of assets by them and News Corp ahead of the listing of News Corp on the NYSE (US$8 billion)
  • Advising French group Cap Gemini in relation to its acquisition of the world-wide consulting business of Ernst & Young (US$750 million)
  • Advising Blockbuster Video on its entry into the UK by way of public company takeover (£350 million) and then advising Blockbuster on its entry into Australia by way of private share acquisition (A$210 million)
  • Advising ASX listed AMP Limited on the demerger of its UK assets (A$4.2 billion)
  • Advising Consolidated Press and ASX listed Crown Resorts on a proposed joint venture to build and operate a casino, hotel and retail complex in Moscow (US$800 million)
  • Advising Spanish listed company ACS on the indirect public takeover of ASX listed Leighton Holdings (Euros 4.9 billion)
  • Advising ArcelorMittal on its proposed joint bid with US company Peabody Energy for ASX listed Macarthur Coal (A$4.9 billion)
  • Advising US listed WEX Inc on its acquisition of an Australian pre-paid card business from a UK based vendor (A$350 million)
  • Advising Travelex on the sale of its Global Business Payments division (£600 million)
  • Advising the sellers of minority interests in a US insurance broking business to a UK listed insurance company
  • Advising the sellers of Maplecroft, a UK based risk analytics business, to a US listed company
  • Advising a US State government pension fund on its establishment in the UK
  • Advising a listed German media company on its proposed acquisition of an Australian film distribution business
  • Advising a French distributor of extreme sports products on its equity investment in a Chinese joint venture relating to Chinese mobile telephone products
