The Affordable Care Act may still seem like something far off in the future—but the deadlines for the 2014 implementations are not. Under the Affordable Care Act “pay or play” provisions, employers with 50 or more full-time employees during the previous calendar year will be required to offer minimum health care coverage or pay a penalty. While these penalties have been delayed until 2015, other provisions of the ACA go into effect in 2014. In addition, employers need to start planning their “pay or play” strategies now as some decisions could require more immediate changes.
