Seyfarth partner Katherine E. Perrelli, Chair of the firm’s Litigation Department and a member of the Trade Secrets Practice Group, is a panelist at the American Bar Association 32nd Annual Intellectual Property Law Conference on Thursday, April 6, 2017. Kate’s panel, “The New Landscape of Trade Secrets,” will explore the changes and challenges of the Defend Trade Secrets Act (DTSA), including the relationship to employment law and other intellectual property law.

Citing reports of $480 billion and 2.1 million jobs lost by America annually to foreign trade secret thieves, Congress enacted 87-0 and 410-2 the Defend Trade Secrets Act of 2016. DTSA created a new federal private right of action for state Uniform Trade Secrets Act “misappropriation” of criminal Economic Espionage Act “trade secrets,” but leaves in place state trade secrets law, while providing for “employee mobility.”
