The Association of Corporate Counsel offered a two-day seminar titled Driving Value in Inside/Outside Counsel Relationships on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 3 and 4.

The event opened with a workshop on designing the perfect law firm or law department; the next segment focused on value-based fee structures and case studies as exercises; and the final segment looked at process management and staffing decisions.

Labor & Employment chair Lisa Damon presented "Process Management & Staffing Decisions," a session which focused on process management – specifically disaggregating processes to determine which pieces can be improved, making sure that legal knowledge is being leveraged (not re-invented), and making better decisions about who should be doing which piece of the work. Lisa examined internal and external staffing options, including out-sourcing and off-shoring, and connected the options to value-based fee structures.
