Biography

Mr. Sherman is a partner in the Labor and Employment Department of Seyfarth Shaw LLP and is the firm's National Practice Management Coordinator. From 2005 through 2009, he was the National Chair of the firm’s Labor & Employment Department. The Labor and Employment Department is the firm’s largest, with more than 300 attorneys across nine offices. 

Mr. Sherman has represented a wide range of employers since 1976. His practice is national in scope. He has been engaged as lead counselor, advocate, or negotiator for major companies in a number of industries, and has represented management in some of the nation’s most widely reported labor disputes. Representative industries in which Mr. Sherman has worked include aluminum, automotive, cable, cement, health care, hospitality, laundry services, newspapers, supermarkets, telecommunications and tires.

Mr. Sherman has litigated numerous labor relations cases before the National Labor Relations Board, the United States District Courts, and the United States Courts of Appeal.  He has represented management in hundreds of labor arbitrations.  He has also served as management’s chief negotiator in many collective bargaining negotiations throughout the country.

In 2009 and 2010, Human Resources Executive Magazine and Lawdragon listed Mr. Sherman as the nation's "Most Powerful Employment Attorneys."  Mr. Sherman is a Fellow of the College of Labor & Employment Lawyers, a member of Leading Lawyers, Illinois Super Lawyer and Best Attorneys Networks, and featured in Who’s Who Legal USA – Management Labour and Employment Lawyers, The Legal 500 United States, Marquis Who’s Who in American Law, and Who’s Who Legal – Illinois.  Mr. Sherman is also named in The Best of the U.S. as one of the best employment lawyers in the country.
