Biography
Mr. Boyd is a partner representing a wide variety of clients in environmental regulatory compliance, litigation and transaction matters. He has negotiated favorable air, water and solid and hazardous waste permits for existing and new sources. He has obtained variances to allow clients to install controls in stages, and site-specific regulatory changes. He has also prepared comments and testimony on various state and federal air and waste regulations. He is a frequent speaker and author on air and hazardous waste developments.
Mr. Boyd has been involved in a variety of enforcement and environmental litigation matters. He has defended clients against local, state, federal and citizen suits involving alleged violations of permitting, air, water, toxic chemicals, and waste requirements. He has substantial experience with Clean Air Act, off-site exposure expense, and nuisance (particularly odor) matters. He has also represented clients in private and governmental matters involving the clean-up of contaminated sites. Mr. Boyd has litigated matters before local, state and federal agencies, Illinois courts and federal courts.
Mr. Boyd also assists with real estate and corporate transactions in which environmental compliance and contamination issues play a major role. He assists with environmental due diligence and helps clients to identify and resolve environmental issues so that transactions can close.
Recently, Mr. Boyd has helped to develop two new areas of focus for the ESTT Practice Group. Mr. Boyd is a leader of the Catastrophe Response Team, which brings together the resources and experience of the ESTT attorneys to assist clients in times of emergencies. The impetus for the Catastrophe Response Team was his experience assisting clients to deal with the multiple agencies involved in explosions and off-site releases at chemical and other manufacturers.
In addition, Mr. Boyd is a leader of the Alternative Energy and Climate Change Group which provides clients with a multidisciplinary, cross office approach to alternative energy and climate change projects. He has experience assisting clients to quantify, reduce and offset their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions as well as to obtain permits and negotiate agreements necessary for new alternative energy projects.
