Biography
Andrew Paley is a partner in the Labor & Employment Department in Seyfarth Shaw LLP's Los Angeles office. He represents employers in all facets of litigation, from inception through trial and appeal.
Mr. Paley represents clients on a wide range of state and federal employment law disputes involving issues of wrongful discharge, race, age, gender and national origin discrimination, breach of contract, privacy rights, harassment, employee raiding and non-competition agreements, trade secrets, unfair competition, retaliation, independent contractor agreements, employee benefits and stock options, wage and hour claims, and employment taxation. Mr. Paley has successfully tried and arbitrated numerous employment law cases, and has extensive experience representing employers before administrative agencies. Mr. Paley also routinely counsels clients on avoiding employment disputes; drafts employment contracts, severance agreements, employment policies and procedures; and conducts in-house seminars for managers and human resources personnel.
Mr. Paley has substantial expertise in defending employers in class action litigations. Mr. Paley is the Los Angeles office coordinator for the firm’s Wage and Hour Litigation Practice Group, and has defended large, complex class actions for alleged wage and hour violations under both state and federal law for numerous clients, including companies in the retail, hospitality, telecommunications, automobile, and insurance industries. Mr. Paley also advises clients on conducting pre-litigation wage and hour audits.
Mr. Paley has written and lectured on various employment law topics. For example, Mr. Paley was a featured lecturer on wage and hour class action lawsuits at the Pacific Coast Labor and Employment Law Conference. Mr. Paley also has been a guest lecturer at the Stanford, Pepperdine, and Southwestern law schools.
Mr. Paley is the architect of the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office’s widely publicized innovative gang injunction program which has resulted in a dramatic decrease in gang activity in various Southern California communities through the use of civil injunctions. Mr. Paley has been honored by the City of Pasadena and has received the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Courageous Citizen Award for his pro bono efforts in combating gang violence.
