Biography

Mr. Diehl is an associate in the Intellectual Property practice group of Seyfarth Shaw LLP. In 1989, Mr. Diehl joined a mid-sized Colorado law firm as a Technical Consultant in the field of chemistry. There he assisted patent counsel in the prosecution of patent applications related to magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technology. In 1991, after having been admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office as a Patent Agent, Mr. Diehl joined a solo-practitioner in Colorado. He began counseling clients in the area of patent prosecution while gaining experience in the mechanical arts such as automated packaging systems, bypass filtering systems, exercise equipment, home safety devices, computer tape back-up devices, molded plastic connectors, vapor deposition processes, sputtering technology, anti-erosion devices and many others.

After moving to Chicago to attend law school, Mr. Diehl continued working as a Patent Agent, prosecuting applications in fields such as pharmaceuticals, super-absorbing clay compounds, surfactant filtering technology and polyolefin sheet material. After law school, Mr. Diehl’s practice before the U.S. Patent Office has developed to include both reexamination and patent interference practice. His technology base has also grown to include extensive experience in hydrocarbon fuel reforming methods and apparatuses, printing machines, thermoformed articles, and thin film casting machines.

Mr. Diehl has assisted in past years teaching an Advanced Patent Drafting class at DePaul University Law School.
