Biography

Jessica Chmiel is an associate in the Wage & Hour Litigation Practice Group in Seyfarth Shaw’s Chicago office.  Ms. Chmiel’s practice focuses on defending employers against collective, class, hybrid and individual actions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and state laws in federal and state courts.

Ms. Chmiel has represented private employers in litigation under the federal FLSA and state wage and hour laws.  She also advises companies on compliance with the FLSA and state wage and hour laws, including the performance of exempt status reviews.

In addition to her wage and hour practice, Ms. Chmiel represents employers in litigation brought pursuant to Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, and Section 1981 of Title 42 of the United States Code.  Ms. Chmiel also has experience representing employers in cases before administrative agencies, including the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Illinois Commission on Human Rights, and the Illinois Department of Human Rights.
