Biography

Mr. Smith is the Chairperson of the Labor & Employment Department in the Atlanta office of Seyfarth Shaw LLP, the Chairperson of the firm’s National Single Plaintiff Employment Litigation Practice Group, a member of the firm’s National Labor and Employment Group Steering Committee, and represents management in a wide variety of labor and employment law matters. Mr. Smith devotes the majority of his practice to state and federal court litigation and arbitration matters, including actions involving the enforcement of restrictive covenants, state law tort and contract claims, and claims brought under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, the Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993, the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938, and various other local, state and federal statutes. Mr. Smith has defended employers in actions filed by individuals and multiple plaintiffs, as well as in class and collective actions. Mr. Smith also counsels clients regarding their employment policies and practices to help them comply with local, state, and federal laws, and to avoid class and collective action lawsuits. Mr. Smith’s experience in the area of labor relations law includes representing management in Section 301 litigation and at arbitration hearings. He also is the Chairperson of the Firm’s Drug and Alcohol Testing Task Force.
