Biography
Mr. Lewis is a seasoned practitioner in the commercial real estate field on a nationwide basis, and he has substantial additional experience in business law and transactional practice. His current practice includes responsibility for significant, complex acquisition and development transactions, as well as the coordination of substantial financing transactions involving various types of commercial real estate. He has worked extensively both in the establishment and dissolution of joint ventures, as well as in the administration and dissolution of real estate investment trusts, including handling all real estate and corporate legal matters for a real estate investment trust which functioned as an investment vehicle in United States commercial properties for Dutch institutional investors. He was responsible for all real estate legal matters relating to the establishment of an office facility for an American corporation in the Republic of Ireland, and for real estate and corporate legal matters involving the planned establishment of a hotel investment fund for Japanese institutional investors.
Mr. Lewis possesses extensive experience in loan workout and foreclosure, as well as the oversight and management of lender participation in borrower bankruptcy proceedings. He enjoys a substantial background in property administration and the leasing of commercial property, including retail, office, hotel, apartment and industrial sites. In addition, Mr. Lewis has rendered counsel in the application of investment laws regulating insurance companies, coordinated the successful industry support and negotiation of important California legislation regarding certain lender remedies, coordinated the development of standardized documents for lending and property management functions, and provided review, analysis and counsel regarding real estate and loan assets of merging institutional investors. Earlier in his career, Mr. Lewis practiced extensively in the fields of corporate law, business transactions, and securities law, including representation of clients engaging in numerous private placements and public offerings of securities.
