Biography
Laurie Barnes is an associate at Seyfarth Shaw LLP.
Laurie represents a variety of employers with respect to employment matters, including hospitality, manufacturing, retail, engineering services, financial services, and insurance. Her practice emphasizes litigation, primarily the defense of claims for workplace harassment, wrongful termination, and employment discrimination. She also has extensive experience litigating class actions and complex multi-party matters.
Laurie has successfully litigated and achieved difficult wins for her clients on summary judgment, summary adjudication, and appeal as well as favorably resolved a number of cases involving allegations of sex, race, religious and disability discrimination, and claims for wrongful termination, retaliation, harassment, and various wage/hour issues.
In addition to her litigation practice, Laurie counsels employers with respect to employment and labor issues, including employee terminations, workplace investigations, reduction-in-force planning, workplace privacy, wage/hour compliance, and the labor and employment law aspects of business transactions. She also works closely with employers on a multitude of employment and management related topics, including manager training, employee coaching and all aspects of human resources. Laurie enjoys obtaining practical, business-minded results for her clients and on helping her clients avoid disputes through proactive planning.
As a passionate advocate, Laurie devotes time and makes a personal commitment to various pro bono organizations in Los Angeles including Public Counsel and the Alliance for Children’s Rights. At Seyfarth Shaw, Laurie sits on the Pro Bono, Recruiting, and Los Angeles Office Committees.
