Shirley Curfman

Biography

Ms. Curfman is a partner in the Los Angeles office of Seyfarth Shaw LLP.  As a member Business Services Department and Corporate & Finance Practice Group, she represents buyers and sellers of asset portfolios, handles major asset securitizations and stock transactions, and structured finance transactions. She also represents issuers, credit enhancers, trustees and investment banks in tax-exempt and taxable financings, both public offerings and private placements, and represents lenders and borrowers in bank financings, issuances of letters of credit, as well as work-out negotiations and corporate restructuring. Ms. Curfman advises companies in connection with derivatives, commercial paper issuances, and regulatory issues relating to finance companies, insurance holding companies, and reporting companies under the Securities Exchange Act of 1934.
 
Ms. Curfman advises participants in the student loan industry with respect to compliance with the Higher Education Act and has served as outside general counsel to two nonprofit student loan issuers. She represents non-U.S. clients in connection with their U.S. operations and U.S. licensors in connection with manufacturing, licensing and distributing of patented products overseas.

Ms. Curfman is a member of the Founders Leadership Council of the Education Foundation for the Commercial Finance Association (an international trade organization for commercial finance lenders), having served as chairperson of the Foundation’s Governing Board, and was elected a Governor Emeritus of the Institute for Corporate Counsel.  She also serves on the boards of several nonprofit corporations and has been a speaker and panelist with respect to a variety of topics, including environmental issues for lenders, international business transactions, business ethics and client development by women professionals.
