Biography
Mr. Hummel is a partner in the Washington, D.C. office of Seyfarth Shaw LLP, where he has practiced construction and government contracts law since 1995. He represents contractors, owners, and design professionals on a wide array of public and private projects, including professional and collegiate sports stadiums, office buildings, condominiums, power plants and pipelines. Mr. Hummel’s expertise includes drafting and negotiating contracts and providing contract administration advice during the course of the design and construction process. He takes a proactive approach in resolving contested issues promptly so as to minimize impacts to the ongoing work, while maximizing his clients’ position and rights in the event of subsequent disputes.
When disputes arise, Mr. Hummel is an advocate of alternative dispute resolution techniques, and has successfully handled numerous mediations and similar ADR proceedings on behalf of a wide variety of clients. Mr. Hummel has extensive experience in preparing and defending complex contract claims, involving issues such as delay, acceleration, changes, extra work and labor inefficiency. Many of the claims that he has prepared have resulted in multi-million dollar recoveries for his clients. He is also an experienced litigator. Mr. Hummel has successfully litigated numerous cases in various state and federal courts, boards of contract appeals, and private arbitration proceedings.
