Carl Westmoreland

Biography

Carl Westmoreland is a Partner in the Atlanta office and is a member of the Real Estate Practice Group. His practice concentrates on zoning and land use issues. Since the mid 1980's, his emphasis has been on local government work, primarily representing real estate developers in land use and rezoning matters.

Mr. Westmoreland has been a guest lecturer on land use matters at Emory University and Georgia State Law Schools, the Georgia Institute of Technology, and the Institute for Continuing Legal Education. He has written several articles that have been published as seminar material for various groups. He has also served on a committee created by the Urban Land Institute to address affordable housing issues and on the Peachtree Corridor Task Force to propose redevelopment and transit options for Peachtree Street in Atlanta.

Mr. Westmoreland is active in local politics and civic organizations. He has been involved in the development of several notable Atlanta projects, including Ravinia, Concourse, Northpark Town Center and The Mall of Georgia. Recent land use cases in the City of Atlanta have included the Atlantic Steel site redevelopment, additions to the Turner Broadcasting Complex, the Terminus development for Cousins Properties, redevelopment of the Buckhead Village area and multifamily developments for Trammell Crow Residential.

Mr. Westmoreland has been selected by Woodward White, Inc. for its 2007 edition of The Best Lawyers in America for Land Use and Zoning Law.
