Biography
Mr. DeJonker is Of Counsel in the Litigation Department of Seyfarth Shaw LLP. Mr. DeJonker concentrates his practice on bankruptcy cases, pre-bankruptcy workout negotiations and compositions, troubled borrower restructuring and forbearance, and general commercial litigation. He has represented secured and unsecured creditors, indenture trustees and financial guaranty insurers, insurers, and debtors in Chapter 7 and Chapter 11 proceedings.
Mr. DeJonker advises clients with respect to buying or selling assets and financing transactions in both distressed and non-distressed circumstances, reorganization, general corporate transactions, commercial dispute issues, including substantial involvement in several complex litigation cases, and corporate governance and fiduciary duty matters. Mr. DeJonker also represents a large insurance company in several bankruptcy proceedings throughout the country, which has provided him with extensive experience in mass tort and Bankruptcy Code section 524(g) issues.
At the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Mr. DeJonker was a Chick Evans Scholar and member of the Campus Scholar Program. While in law school, he was the managing editor of the Elder Law Journal and received the Rickert Award for Excellence in Legal Publication. He is admitted to practice in Illinois and has appeared before several state and federal courts throughout the country. Mr. DeJonker is active in local scholarship organizations, including the Chick Evans Scholarship and Link Unlimited Programs, and also participates in numerous pro bono engagements and programs.
