Biography
Mr. McAdam is a partner in the Labor and Employment group at Seyfarth Shaw LLP. He has experience representing management in litigation and administrative hearings in a broad range of employment law matters. He also provides labor and employment counseling to private employers.
Mr. McAdam earned a Juris Doctor degree from McGeorge School of Law, with distinction, a Masters in Public Policy from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government, and a Bachelor of Arts from Stanford University. He is a member of the trial bar for California, the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit and Ninth Circuit, and the U.S. District Courts of the Eastern, Northern and Central districts of California. He has also represented employers in administrative matters before the California Labor Commissioner, the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing, the California Workers Compensation Appeals Board, the California Unemployment Insurance Appeals Board, the U.S. Equal Opportunity Commission, and the National Labor Relations Board. He has served as lead counsel in civil trials, arbitrations, mediations, administrative hearings and private negotiations and settlements.
Mr. McAdam has represented private employers in claims for breach of contract, discrimination, retaliation, harassment, wrongful termination, defamation, unfair labor practices and unfair business practices, among others. He counsels clients regarding compliance with the wide-range of employment laws governing California employers, including the laws of collective bargaining, wage and hour, employment contracts, anti-discrimination, workplace privacy (Internet and e-mail usage), paid and unpaid leave, reductions-in-force, unemployment insurance, disability insurance, disability accommodation, harassment investigations, workplace violence, and background checks, among others. He has extensive experience defending employers against labor union corporate campaigns.
Mr. McAdam is a frequent speaker and media commentator on California employment legislation. He is a member of the California Chamber of Commerce Employee Relations Committee. He has contributed numerous articles on California employment legislation to the California Labor & Employment Law Quarterly and the Los Angeles Daily Journal and San Francisco Daily Journal publications. He previously worked as a legislative aid in the California State Assembly and State Senate.
