Gerald Maatman Quoted in Business Insurance "Employers to Review Leave Policies"

Gerald Maatman was quoted in the August 4, 2008 issue of Business Insurance. The article reported on the Steven Peter vs. Gilead Sciences Inc. decision by the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Chicago, which illustrated the necessity for employers to carefully parse what they promise their employees in employee handbooks.  
 
Jerry remarked, “Make sure if you don’t intend to offer employees entitlements above and beyond what the law requires that you’re careful to craft the language of your employees handbook to say as much.” He further noted that state law may provide those additional entitlements. “Any ambiguity ‘may give an opening for employee,’” he added.
