Jerry Maatman Featured in Business Insurance "Employers Face Dramatic Rise in Wage and Hour Litigation"
05/01/2008

Jerry Maatman was featured in the “Questions & Answers” column published in the April 30, 2008 issue of Business Insurance. In the column, Jerry answered questions about the dramatic increase in wage-and-hour lawsuits in recent years, and what risk managers can do to reduce their exposure to such lawsuits. Jerry observed that, “The increase in the number of lawsuits suggests that workers and their attorneys are bypassing the violations reporting system at the U.S. Department of Labor and bringing more private lawsuits in the pursuit of more lucrative resolutions.” Jerry noted that companies need to pay particular attention to classification of workers as exempt from overtime and that an employer should have “a sufficient comfort level with its exempt status classifications, as well as its compliance with FLSA record-keeping requirements.”
