Gerry Skoning Published in Crain's Chicago Business "Perpetual Elections Put the People's Business on Hold"
03/19/2008

Gerry Skoning’s opinion piece, “Perpetual Elections Put the People’s Business on Hold,” was published in the March 3, 2008 issue of Crain’s Chicago Business. In his piece, Gerry observes that, “the election-year phenomenon constipates the legislative process and gums up the wheels of government.” This, Gerry explains, results “either from an appalling lack of political will and fear of adverse opinion polls” during an election cycle, “or from elected representatives ignoring their jobs to spend all their time on the campaign trail.” To counter this phenomenon, Gerry suggests that, “We should enact strict limitations on both the length and the amount candidates can spend” campaigning for an election.
