International Projects

Helping clients manage the burgeoning growth in international construction, Seyfarth Shaw’s U.S.- and Europe-based construction attorneys represent foreign, multinational and U.S. corporations, financial institutions, public bodies and individuals on a full range of international transactions.

Our attorneys have significant experience in international law and are experienced in drafting and negotiating international construction agreements, consortium and joint venture agreements, teaming agreements and related documents. Seyfarth Shaw’s ability to serve U.S.-based and foreign companies is enhanced by the firm’s Asian presence and a European base in our Brussels office, as well as strong ties with numerous law firms around the world.

We have particular experience with large, overseas infrastructure projects, including waste water treatment plants, water purification plants, power plants, dams, roadway projects, airports, and other such infrastructure development on a national and international basis. Among many others, our attorneys have experience with:

  • major highway projects in mainland China;
  • subway and other rail projects in Taiwan;
  • dredging projects in Mexico;
  • airport and other projects in Germany and throughout Europe;
  • waste water treatment plant projects in Singapore;
  • hydroelectric projects in Laos, Cambodia, and Thailand;
  • port dredging and construction projects in Iran; and
  • pumping, piping and water purification projects in Botswana, Ghana, and elsewhere in Africa.

When projects have resulted in disputes, our attorneys have been involved in the dispute resolution process with respect to major claims on the Taipei subway system and claims submitted by the construction contractor on alleged variation orders on several water projects in Africa. Our attorneys have also:

  • Represented an engineering firm on claims against the Singapore government relating to a major wastewater treatment plant.
  • Represented a prime contractor in an International Chamber of Commerce arbitration against a Turkish firm involving the design and construction of an airport project in Iraq.
  • Represented a prime contractor in an International Chamber of Commerce arbitration involving a defaulted Pakistani subcontractor on a fast-track military air base project in Afghanistan.
