Construction
Seyfarth Shaw’s comprehensive construction practice advises and assists companies throughout all phases of the construction process. With more than 40 attorneys in the United States and abroad, ours is one of the largest and most experienced construction practices in the country.
Broad Experience
Many of our attorneys have professional degrees in engineering, architecture and related fields, and are licensed architects or engineers. This expertise in conjunction with our extensive construction law background, means we understand the significant regulatory, technical and business issues that face any construction project.
Our attorneys have worked extensively with professional societies, including the Design Build Institute of America and the Associated General Contractors of America, to develop streamlined, standard form agreements for use by architects, engineers, contractors, and subcontractors.
We also have considerable experience in alternative dispute resolution (“ADR”) procedures as well as federal and state court litigation. We are especially proud of our innovative use of mediation, minitrials and other ADR procedures to resolve disputes successfully and efficiently.
Focused Services
We assist clients with issues that arise in the drafting, negotiation, and performance of contracts, and have extensive experience in developing contract documents that are designed to preclude costly disputes as projects progress. In that regard, our attorneys work with clients to effectively resolve disputes involving all types of construction projects. We also have detailed knowledge of construction finance; innovative forms of insurance protection; zoning regulations; contract law; and other areas of legal and technical skill required to provide targeted, innovative and efficient dispute avoidance and resolution services.
Our attorneys have achieved positive results prosecuting and defending contract claims, including changes, differing site conditions, inefficiency and delay; performance bond liability claims; warranty claims; employee and third-party personal injury claims; bankruptcy proceedings; lender liability claims; mechanic's lien claims; fraud actions; and Occupation Safety and Health Administration (“OSHA”) construction claims.
On domestic and international projects alike, we advise contractors, subcontractors, architects, engineers and public and private owners engaged in commercial, industrial and government construction.
