Brett Bartlett was quoted in a May 19 story “New Overtime Threshold at $47,476 a Year; Inclusion of Bonus Adds to Complexity of Rule” by Bloomberg BNA on a new Labor Department final rule that qualifies more employees for overtime compensation, more than doubles the standard salary threshold and allows bonuses and commissions to count toward the new level. Bartlett said that employers considering the fluctuating workweek calculation may be motivated by wanting to maintain employee morale by not removing the salaried status from workers.
