CHICAGO (October 14, 2011) — Leading law firm Seyfarth Shaw LLP is pleased to announce that Chicago partner Gerald Pauling was selected by Chicago United, one of the city’s preeminent organizations devoted to business, leadership and diversity, as a “2011 Leader of Color.” Chicago United is an advocacy organization composed of racially diverse CEOs and Senior Executives, and it has been part of Chicago’s business community for 40 years. Those designated as Business Leaders of Color have generally demonstrated integrity, customer commitment, desire to improve their organizations, genuine concern for their communities and a global perspective and experience.
The selection process involved extensive evaluations by several teams of business leaders, and there were more than 150 nominees. Chosen every two years, winners will be featured in the Business Leaders of Color publication that will be distributed through Crain’s’ Chicago Business and to CEOs of Fortune 1000 companies. Past recipients include First Lady Michelle Obama, Don Thompson, president and chief operating officer of McDonald’s Corp, Luis Sierra, refinery chief financial officer of BP, among others.
Pauling’s legal practice focuses on employment litigation and labor and employee relations. He has represented employers in a variety of state and federal employment matters, including complex discrimination litigation and class actions, employment contracts, harassment claims, and claims brought under Title VII, the ADEA, the ADA, and several other state and federal statutes. He advises, trains and counsels clients on employment policies and practices and diversity issues.
Pauling leads the Seyfarth Shaw Chicago Office Labor and Employment Group, Chairs the firm’s Chicago Office Hiring Committee and Co-Chairs the firm’s National Diversity Action Team. He also serves as Employer Vice Chair for the American Bar Association’s CLE National Programs Committee.
