CHICAGO (May 22, 2015) — Seyfarth Shaw LLP announced the arrival of senior counsel M. James (Jim) Daley to the firm’s Litigation practice and eDiscovery and Information Governance group in Chicago. Daley joins Seyfarth from Daley & Fey LLP in Kansas City where he had a boutique eDiscovery, information governance, data privacy and data protection practice.

For over 20 years, Daley has helped U.S. and foreign multinational clients successfully manage eDiscovery, information governance, data privacy and data protection challenges. Daley has worked with global Fortune 500 clients in diverse industries to help reduce the legal risk and cost of e-discovery, information governance and data privacy/protection compliance in the context of U.S. and international business, litigation and regulatory matters. Daley has served on the forefront of e-discovery and e-records compliance battles, leading one of the first international electronic records collections and productions, and developing some of the first U.S. and international legal hold and records retention programs for Fortune 500 clients.

“We are delighted to welcome Jim to the eDiscovery and Information Governance team. He brings a wealth of experience and expertise to our global clients in these rapidly changing areas,” said Kate Perrelli, chair of Seyfarth’s Litigation department. “Jim’s 30 years of complex litigation and trial experience, along with his deep relationships with U.S. and global companies, counsel, courts and regulators alike, will be an invaluable asset to our clients.”

In addition, Daley has served as an independent expert witness in several high-profile litigations as to the reasonableness of corporate e-records conduct. As a Charter Member of the Sedona Conference® Working Group One on Electronic Document Retention and Production (WG1), and as a Charter Member and Co-Chair of The Sedona Conference® Working Group 6 on International Electronic Information Management, Discovery & Disclosure (WG6), Daley helped pioneer strategic approaches for multinational Fortune 500 clients for navigating the conflicting currents of U.S. and cross-border discovery, data privacy and data protection.

“Jim's reputation in the eDiscovery industry, unique skill set, and practice experience are a few of the many talents he brings to our team,” said Scott Carlson, chair of Seyfarth’s eDiscovery and Information Governance practice. “His presence enhances our team, and its reputation as one of the most knowledgeable eDiscovery and Information Governance practice groups in the world.”

Certified as an International Information Privacy Professional, Daley received his J.D. from the University of Iowa Law School and earned a Master’s Degree in Management of Information Systems from Friends University, in Wichita, Kansas. He received his B.A. in English and German Studies from Creighton University.
