DOJ to No Longer Allow Settlements to Include Contributions to Third Parties, Thereby Threatening the Future of SEPs

Attorney General Jeff Sessions issued a memo last week to all Department of Justice staff and 94 U.S. Attorney’s Offices, prohibiting payments to nongovernmental entities that are not a party to the litigation as part of a negotiated settlement.
