Biography
Geoffrey Westbrook is a senior associate in the Labor & Employment Department of Seyfarth Shaw LLP's Sacramento Office. His practice is dedicated to advising and defending executives and managers in wage and hour class actions, high-stakes wrongful termination claims, and disability-related matters. Mr. Westbrook represents local and national businesses in courts across the state in California Labor Code and Fair Labor Standards Act actions and before the California Division of Labor Standards Enforcement (DLSE). He also has experience litigating against the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and California Department of Fair Employment and Housing (DFEH), both with initial charges and large-scale representative actions. Additionally, Mr. Westbrook litigates matters involving trade secret, non-compete, unfair competition, and related business torts. He handles traditional labor matters, including NLRB cases, labor arbitrations, and advising clients on union-related issues. Mr. Westbrook’s experience encompasses a range of industries, including technology, construction, healthcare associations and providers, agriculture, transportation, temporary staffing, hospitality, retail, food service, and non-profit organizations.
In addition to litigation, Mr. Westbrook serves as a trusted advisor to employers on issues of employee benefits, background screening, workplace privacy, employment law training, and high-risk terminations. He guides managers through challenging state and federal compliance issues concerning worker classification, pay practices and leaves of absence. Mr. Westbrook often assists with sensitive internal investigations concerning employee misconduct.
Mr. Westbrook serves as the Social Media Chair for the Sacramento Chapter of the Federal Bar Association. He is also actively involved with the American Cancer Society through its local Partnership Council. He regularly provides pro bono assistance to California nonprofit organizations, including A World Fit For Kids, GlobalGirl Media, and F.A.C.T. (Family, Adult & Child Therapies). Mr. Westbrook is a team coach for U.C. Davis School of Law in the areas of employment law and cybercrime.
