Ms. Murakami is an associate in the Labor & Employment Department of Seyfarth Shaw LLP’s San Francisco office.  She represents employers in a broad range of employment disputes in state and federal courts, including discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, and wage and hour cases. 

In addition to litigation, Ms. Murakami advises management on compliance with the California Labor Code, Federal Labor Standards Act (FLSA), and international employment laws.  She represents clients before various regulatory agencies, such as the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing (DFEH), the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), and the California Labor Commissioner’s Office.

Prior to joining Seyfarth Shaw LLP, Ms. Murakami worked at Silicon Valley litigation firms where she gained extensive trial and appellate experience in employment defense, commercial, and civil rights cases, and earned a 100% win record across six trials.

Ms. Murakami received her J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law (Boalt Hall) and B.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles.  During law school, Ms. Murakami was a judicial extern to the Honorable Marilyn Hall Patel of the United States District Court for the Northern District of California, and served as Editor-in-Chief of the Asian American Law Journal.

Ms. Murakami currently serves on the Executive Board of the Asian Pacific American Bar Association of Silicon Valley and co-chairs its Diversity & Inclusion Committee.  She also serves as the Asian Pacific Bar Representative on the Santa Clara County Bar Association Board of Trustees.  In 2015, Ms. Murakami received the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association’s Pro Bono Award for her work on the first trial to successfully challenge the constitutionality of the federal government’s post-9/11 watchlisting practices.
