Tobi L. Pinsky is a partner in the Chicago office of Seyfarth Shaw LLP.  Ms. Pinsky concentrates her practice in transactional real estate law, providing business-driven outcomes for institutional property owners, investors, and developers in all aspects of acquisition, financing, development, and leasing of various property types, including retail, office, industrial multifamily residential, student housing, hospitality, and healthcare facilities locally and throughout the United States.

Ms. Pinsky has extensive experience with single-asset and portfolio acquisitions and dispositions, of core and value-add properties, and regularly represents institutional investors and developers in joint venture development transactions from the initial formation and structuring of their business entities to managing issues during the development of a project.

As part of her real estate finance practice, Ms. Pinsky represents borrowers and national and local banks in acquisition, bridge, construction, and permanent loans, whether balance sheet, syndicated, or securitized.  Ms. Pinsky also advises banks on structuring construction loan transactions to ensure HVCRE compliance.  Additionally, Ms. Pinsky regularly counsels clients in the areas of troubled debt restructuring, distressed asset and distressed loan acquisition and disposition, and, prior to joining Seyfarth, served as special asset counsel to a local community bank.

Some of Ms. Pinsky’s recent transactions include:

  • Represented a governmental pension fund on joint venture, $110,000,000 development, and $60,000000 construction financing of mixed-use retail and luxury apartments in Seattle, Washington.
  • Represented a governmental pension fund on $220,000,000 acquisition and $110,000,000 post-acquisition financing of student housing at the University of Maryland.
  • Represented comingled investment fund on a joint venture, $20,000,000 stock acquisition and subsequent $18,000,000 financing of an office building in Austin, Texas.
  • Represented comingled fund on $110,000,000 acquisition and $55,000,000 post-acquisition financing of four business park, nine property industrial portfolio.
  • Represented bankruptcy trustee on the evaluation and disposition of a seventy-property portfolio (retail, office, industrial, and residential) on behalf of debtor’s estate, resulting in a net recovery to the estate of approximately $15,000,000 after satisfaction of secured claims.
