SWANA E-Training Conference: Overview of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act

This program provides an overview of the federal Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) as it concerns the solid waste management industry. Specifically, it reviews the underlying federal legislation and resulting regulatory scheme relating to solid wastes and the environment, including key definitions. In addition, hazardous wastes as they relate to the solid waste industry will be defined, together with a discussion of its exclusion from solid waste landfills. Finally, enforcement provisions will be reviewed, along with a case study where a solid waste landfill accepted a hazardous waste into its fill -- and the resulting ramifications. As part of the session, an open time for questions and answers will be provided.
