Firm Nets Perfect Score from Human Rights Campaign Foundation, Named a Best Law Firm for Women by Working Mother

CHICAGO (November 14, 2012) — For five years running, Seyfarth Shaw has been recognized as one of the "Best Places to Work" by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s annual Corporate Equality Index (CEI) survey, achieving a perfect 100 score in its latest report. The firm has also been named one of Working Mother and Flex-Time Lawyers “50 Best Law Firms for Women” for the second consecutive year.

“At Seyfarth, we place great value on fostering inclusion and strengthening the diversity of our workforce,” said Seyfarth managing partner J. Stephen Poor. “We are honored to be recognized for our concerted efforts to create the most supportive and dynamic environment possible at all levels of our organization.”

Since 2002, the HRC’s CEI report provides an in-depth analysis and rating of large U.S. employers and their workplace policies and practices pertinent to LGBT employees and their families. This year, nearly 900 businesses were rated in the CEI, including the entire Fortune 500, as well as 141 law firms. In order to receive an 100 percent rating, the CEI rated companies on factors including equal employment opportunity policies, employment benefits, organizational LGBT competency, public engagement and responsible citizenship. The 50 Best Law Firms initiative for Women was founded in 2007 by Working Mother and Flex-Time Lawyers in order to celebrate the law firms that are most successful in retaining and promoting women lawyers. As part of the 2012 list, Seyfarth was specifically recognized by Working Mother for its promotion rate of women to the partner level, citing Seyfarth for creating an environment where attorneys are “untied from a restrictive advancement structure.”

Working Mother evaluated Seyfarth in a variety of areas, including workforce representation; time off and leaves; child care; flexibility; leadership, compensation and advancement of women; and development and retention of women. The featured organizations will be profiled in the December/January issue of Working Mother, and Seyfarth’s complete profile is available online at
