National LGBT Bar Association Names Seyfarth Partner Among Best LGBT Lawyers Under 40

SAN FRANCISCO (August 16, 2011) — Seyfarth Shaw LLP Labor & Employment partner Laura Maechtlen was named among a select group of recipients of the National Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Bar Association’s Best LGBT Lawyer Under 40 Award. The award was created to recognize LGBT legal professionals “who have distinguished themselves in their field and demonstrated a profound commitment to equality.”

A partner in Seyfarth’s San Francisco office, Maechtlen also serves on the firm’s Diversity Action Team Executive Committee and does an extensive amount of pro bono work, which garnered her the title of 2010 Seyfarth Shaw Pro Bono Partner of the Year. Serving a variety of industries, her practice focuses on employment litigation and includes the defense of wage and hour class and collective actions that arise from alleged California Labor Code and/or the Fair Labor Standards Act violations. She also litigates employment discrimination and harassment cases brought as multi-plaintiff and class actions, and she has experience litigating against the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).

Maechtlen regularly speaks and publishes on a range of employment law and litigation topics, in addition to issues regarding diversity and inclusion in the legal profession.

The Best LGBT Lawyers Under 40 will be recognized at the 2011 Lavender Law Conference on September 8-10 in Hollywood, California.
