Seyfarth Shaw LLP announced today that Jeremy A. Cohen has joined the firm’s Litigation department as a partner and member of its Commercial Litigation and Real Estate Litigation practice groups. Cohen joins Seyfarth’s New York office, which has grown by more than 100 attorneys over the past decade. Cohen comes from Wolf Haldenstein Adler Freeman & Herz LLP where he served as partner in the commercial litigation practice area.  He began his career at Kramer Levin Naftalis & Frankel LLP, and he was a law clerk to the Honorable Richard Owen, Senior United States District Judge for the Southern District of New York.

Cohen is a veteran litigator whose practice encompasses all aspects of business litigation on behalf of corporations, LLCs, partnerships, and individuals, with a particular focus on real estate, securities/broker-dealer, employment, and advertising matters. He frequently represents property owners, real estate developers, and financial investors in state and federal litigation involving condominiums, mixed residential and commercial developments, hotels, sports arenas, marinas, and real estate investment funds. He also regularly counsels co-op and condominium boards.

“Jeremy is an excellent litigator who can handle complex matters at both the state and federal levels,” said Kate Perrelli, chair of Seyfarth’s Litigation department. “He is a valuable addition to our growing team, possessing strong capabilities in a broad range of commercial litigation areas.”

Cohen has also acted in first-chair roles in federal court, the Commercial Division of the New York Supreme Court and in FINRA arbitrations. In addition to conducting trials and arbitrations, he has briefed and argued dozens of motions and appeals, including dispositive motions, injunctions, discovery disputes, and expert witness issues. He has also assisted numerous clients with regulatory and internal investigations.

“Jeremy is well-known for handling complicated business disputes, including actions among joint venturers and lenders in the real estate field.  He has an impressive track record of success in state court litigation,” said John Napoli, co-managing partner of Seyfarth’s New York office.

In addition to his real estate and commercial practice, Cohen’s experience also includes litigation of employment disputes and false advertising claims on behalf of pharmaceutical, consumer products, financial, and apparel companies.  He has also represented high-profile individuals and entities in the sports and entertainment field, including musicians, athletes and teams in an extensive assortment of litigation and arbitration.

“Jeremy is a versatile lawyer, capable of counseling clients and protecting their rights in a wide range of fields, whether they are Fortune 500 corporations, family-held real estate companies, or co-op and condominium boards.” said Lorie Almon, co-managing partner of Seyfarth’s New York office.

In 2014, Cohen was part of the New York Law Journal’s inaugural class of Rising Stars, one of only 42 statewide honorees. Since 2001, he has been a member of the Advisory Board of Legal Outreach, Inc., a non-profit organization that prepares high school students from underserved communities in New York City to compete at high academic levels. He received his J.D. from Columbia Law School, cum laude, where he served as executive editor of The Columbia Journal of Law and Social Problems. He earned a B.A., with distinction, from the University of Michigan.

Cohen’s arrival follows the recent addition of litigation partners Tonya Esposito Oliver and Andrew Boutros.
