Seyfarth Represents Los Angeles Football Club in $250 Million Development of New Soccer Stadium

CHICAGO (January 28, 2016) – Seyfarth Shaw represented the Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) in connection with a $250 million stadium development project in South Los Angeles at the site of the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena in Exposition Park. The new privately funded development will be anchored by a new state-of-the-art 22,000-seat soccer stadium for the newest Major League Soccer (MLS) team, together with ancillary hospitality, conference, restaurant, office, retail and museum uses. 

The new home for LAFC will be the first open air stadium built in Los Angeles since 1962. The total economic impact of the development over 30 years is projected to be nearly $3 billion and the stadium and soccer club will create over 3,000 jobs. The project, designed by Los Angeles-based architectural firm Gensler, will also include over 100,000 sq. ft. of new restaurants, office space, a conference center and a first-of-its kind world football (soccer) museum. The project included the negotiation of a sub-subground lease and related lease and operational documents with the University of Southern California, the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum Commission, the State of California, through the Sixth District Agricultural Association, and several other Exposition Park stakeholders, including the California Science Center, California African American Museum and Natural History Museum.
