Ofer Lion and Christian Canas authored an article on March 1 in Taxation of Exempts on a new IRS ruling that says a private foundation’s pledge of marketable securities of a particular corporation as collateral to secure a nonprofit hospital’s payment of tax exempt bonds would be treated as a program-related investment (PRI) and a qualifying charitable distribution.
