People: Michelle K. Mellinger, Senior Counsel
Biography
Ms. Mellinger is senior counsel practicing labor and employment, affirmative action and education law. In her labor and employment practice, Ms. Mellinger represents management in the litigation of federal and state employment discrimination lawsuits and charges brought under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (Title VII), the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA), the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), and numerous related state laws and municipal ordinances. She also assists companies in investigations, in preparing and reviewing employee handbooks and employment applications, and in the settlement and negotiation of employment-related charges.
Ms. Mellinger also represents management in affirmative action compliance and in the OFCCP compliance review process. Specifically, Ms. Mellinger assists companies in preparing for on-site audits, including pre-compliance review analysis of data and representing companies during the on-site review. Ms. Mellinger also has experience in drafting position letters to the OFCCP pre and post-audit.
Ms. Mellinger’s education law experience includes the representation of school districts throughout Illinois in personnel, special education, and DCFS related matters.
Prior to joining Seyfarth Shaw LLP, Ms. Mellinger completed an externship in the Chambers of Judge Milton Shadur in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois and at the City of Chicago Sexual Harassment office.
