Kerry Friedrichs is a partner in the San Francisco office of Seyfarth Shaw LLP, and is a member of the firm’s Labor and Employment department.  Ms. Friedrichs’ practice is focused on advising and defending clients with respect to a wide variety of wage and hour issues.  While she has represented clients across industries, she has developed particular expertise in the healthcare, retail, and financial services industries. 
 
With a strong understanding of California and federal wage and hour law, Ms. Friedrichs’ experience includes defense of wage and hour class actions involving overtime, minimum wage, exempt status, meal and rest period, alternative work schedule, and other claims.  In addition to class actions, Ms. Friedrichs regularly represents employers in connection with Department of Labor investigations and claims before the Division of Labor Standards Enforcement.
 
Ms. Friedrichs also provides advice and counseling to employers regarding day-to-day wage and hour compliance matters.  She counsels employers regarding a broad range of pay practices, including meal and rest period requirements, development of payroll and timekeeping systems, exempt status determinations, regular rate of pay and overtime calculation, alternative work schedules, and other compensation issues.  She also regularly assists clients in developing commission and incentive compensation plans. 
 
In addition to her more traditional counseling role, Ms. Friedrichs assists clients in identifying issues and avoiding litigation by conducting audits of payroll policies and practices.  She also develops and conducts training programs regarding wage and hour issues in a variety of formats.
