Seyfarth partner, Andrew Sherman, spoke at The Capital Roundtable’s annual conference on “Private Equity Investing in Franchise Companies,” Thursday, April 19, 2018. Andrew joined over 20 experts in a discussion of how technology improvements and operational savvy can make every unit of your franchise company operate at maximum efficiency.

New areas continue to emerge -- like food halls, senior services, pet care, childcare, while new technologies promise to cut costs, improve margins, and attract new customers. But some investors worry that the franchise business model is becoming a “bubble.” For proof, they point to how the number of restaurant chains has been growing at a rate double the rate of population growth!  And they foresee the possibility of an economic slowdown that could burst the bubble.

The worriers are focusing on the strength of existing units’ operations. They search for evidence that royalty streams will stay strong. And they look for new technologies like kiosk ordering and streamlined apps that keep “need it now” customers engaged.
