Border Checkpoints

There have been reports of increased activity by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (“CBP”) along roadways within the United States, particularly in the Northeast.  Noncitizens are reminded to carry documentation with them at all times to confirm their legal status - even when traveling within the United States. 

CBP operates checkpoints - both permanent and temporary - inside the United States as part of its strategy for securing U.S. borders.  CBP officers may stop any person or vehicle at these checkpoints and ask travelers questions about their citizenship or immigration status.  Travelers should be prepared to present evidence of legal presence within the United States.  Such documents may include a passport with valid, unexpired Form I-94, a Permanent Resident Card or other evidence of lawful status.
