Camille Olson was quoted in the February 2009 issue of The Inlander in the article, “New Administration Likely to Change Course on Labor Laws.” The article reported on the plethora of federal legislation likely to emerge in the coming weeks. Camille noted that President Barack Obama and the Democratically controlled Congress are going to have “an enormous amount of interest in passing employment discrimination or non-discrimination litigation related bills.”

Camille pointed out, “The Lilly Ledbetter bill would expand the statue of limitations for any type of claim for discrimination to be effective so long as a claim is brought within 300 days of receiving a paycheck or retirement check which is less because of the vestiges of some sort of discrimination.” For example, she explained, “Say I was passed over for a promotion five years ago; my paycheck today is less, so I can still contest that five-year-ago promotion decision.” In light of the legislation, Camille suggested that employers keep their paperwork longer, as a safety precaution. Additionally, she remarked, “Think about your document-retention policy, whether you want to extend those and actually have some longer policies.”
