Carl Westmoreland Quoted in the Fulton County Daily Report
"Battle Along North Druid Hills"
Carl Westmoreland was quoted in the December 8, 2008 issue of the Fulton County Daily Report in the article, "Battle Along North Druid Hills." The article reported on the development plans along North Druid Hills Road and how residents are reacting to the increased density included in the plans. Carl, advisor to Taylor & Mathis on its plans for the North Druid Hills-area redevelopment, Executive Park, noted that “The biggest thing is getting people to understand that more density and condos or apartments doesn't necessarily mean lower value.” He further noted that “[t]heir property values are going up. It's always been interesting to me, some of the more densely occupied parts of Atlanta are those with the highest property values.”
The North Druid Hills area, called Executive Park, includes office buildings, hotels and a limited amount of retail space. Carl explained that this area was developed in the 1970s and it is now outdated compared to other office parks in Atlanta. The redeveloped property, which Taylor & Mathis has proposed calling “The Park Druid Hills,” would include about 2.8 million square feet of residential, retail, office and hotel space constructed by approximately 17 new buildings, including a 12-story tower. Carl remarked, “It's more density, but it's also a different type of development. It's not just quantitatively different, it's qualitatively different.”
