Daniel Schwartz Featured in IP Law360
“Seyfarth Adds Jenner & Block IP Partner In Chicago”
Daniel Schwartz's arrival to the Chicago office of Seyfarth Shaw was featured in the January 27, 2010 IP Law360 article, "Seyfarth Adds Jenner & Block IP Partner In Chicago." The article noted that Dan joined Seyfarth's intellectual property practice, where he will focus on IP litigation and counseling. According to the article, Dan focuses on patent, trade secrets and trademark litigation. He works across a variety of industries, with a particular focus in medical products, telecommunications technology, and defense- and aerospace-related technologies.
Dan explained, "There's a wonderful group of people here, not only in the intellectual property department but across the firm. The opportunity that exists for me and my client base to really use the platforms here at Seyfarth Shaw just meshed very nicely." The article noted that Dan also counsels companies in intellectual property portfolio management, for clients looking to protect diverse technologies. He pointed out that since the beginning of the recession, many companies have become more interested in alternatives to costly litigation. He added, "Clients are becoming much more conscious about how they strategize their IP litigation. It had been typically a very expensive but fruitful tool in the competitive arsenal, but with the clamping down of legal budgets, I've noticed clients being much more willing to entertain a variety of different strategies, which has required us to be creative in coming up with strategies."
Additionally, Dan told IP Law360 that in the near future, he expected new technology to lead to more intellectual property challenges. He noted, "As we come out of the recession, I think there will probably be an increase in IP litigation, because I think you will see more industries that are developing more and interesting technologies that are capable financially of pursuing litigation." With global development in growing areas such as green technology, Dan said he expected more cross-border IP challenges and deals in the future. He concluded, "There are certain countries around the world who are ahead of us. It's definitely going to be an issue where foreign companies have great technology and great capabilities and are looking to partner with U.S. companies."
